The key is to make sure that social media is part of a wider communications strategy and that when you do the offline stuff e.g. meetings, events, going out and speaking to people - you are collecting data/information that allows you to have contact with them online. You can then measure how successful your offline stuff is but also keep the conversation going by using social media and stuff like email/sms.

I think the AMSU event will show that social media is a great tool, but it will also show that it is no substitute for getting out there and speaking to students/members/customers.</description>

		<description>Nice blog Ed.  I think you have hit the nail on the head when you say we will be required to do more with less for the forseeable future.  It more than a little depressing on the face of it but if we can increase the level of engagment of our members many things become possible.

Social media hasd a part ot play but i anot sure that it is the cure all we need to look at the ways to make it interact effectively with our other means of communications particularly face to face.</description>
